David Moyes issues stern warning to players

Sportsmail columnist has said he would have taken the West Ham job if he was offered

DAVID MOYES has been appointed manager of West Ham following Slaven Bilic's sacking.

"I think everyone knows he [Chicharito] has got a hamstring injury", Moyes said in a press conference.

"If anybody says they can't get back from global duty, don't think you will be coming in and playing Saturday".

"They can't always be saying 'The manager doesn't do this, or the manager doesn't do that.' So, come on let's see what you can do yourself". "I am 100 per cent committed to helping improve the situation we're in at West Ham".

He added: "I actually think there's quite a lot, you'll have heard that they've already come in [under Bilic] and locked the dressing room and said "we better sort this out amongst ourselves".

"The clips I have seen, he's not been a team player, but he wouldn't be the only one I would say that about. others are going to have to do the work for the team if they're going to be a part of it". I think my players at Everton over-achieved from the level they were at, punched above their weight. The club are alright paying £20m on a striker or midfield player who is not good enough, but they won't spend £5m on a manager.

Moyes also feels he can get the best out of record signing Marko Arnautovic, who has flopped since his £25m switch from Stoke.

"Players want accountability and I will give them that". He needs to be a team player. Did they work out as well as I wanted?

"I told him on Friday, "You'll play in the team if you make goals and score goals, but if you don't run for the team, then you don't play".

Alongside fellow January signings Jan Kirchhoff and Lamine Kone, Wahbi Khazri played a major role in Sunderland's great escape under Sam Allardyce in the 2015/16 season. But within that they have to take their own responsibility on and off the field. We can't be standing over them all the time.
