Politics President Buhari Commences 2-Day Visit To South-East Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari, beginning his 2-day south east visit, has landed at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

Buhari was conferred with the two traditional chieftaincy titles, Enyioma 1 of Ebonyi by Ebonyi traditional council of rulers and Ochioha NdiIgbo 1 by South East traditional council of rulers.

The President gave the assurance while addressing stakeholders of the state at Government House Exco Chambers, in Abakaliki.

"I also commend the state governor for his numerous infrastructural strides of which I have commissioned some projects he initiated", he said.

"I will again assure the people of the southeast that we are investing in infrastructure projects that are of critical importance to the region: the Second Niger Bridge, the East-West Road, the Coastal Rail, power projects - these and more will benefit the region and unlock economic potential".

The president also unveiled the statue of Sir Akanu Ibiam, a former governor of the old Eastern region, whom he described "as a great Nigerian, whose notable records of humanitarianism, advocacy of free primary education and rural development, will continue to be an inspiration to all'".

The president's first stop was the coal city, Enugu state, where he was given a warm welcome by state governors in the region, as well as traditional leaders at the airport.
