AIADMK Symbol Row: EC Allots Two-Leaves Symbol To EPS-OPS Group

Election Commission has informed 'two leaves' symbol belongs to EPS-OPS faction AIADMK MP

Palaniswami said his faction is "very happy". It is a fair verdict by Election Commission. He further added: "We submitted affidavits to prove that a majority of party cadres are with us. We have the majority of officer bearers, legislators and Members of Parliament".

The chief minister also denied that the poll panel had given his camp the symbol because of its alleged proximity to the BJP.

V Maitreyan of EPS-OPS faction told ANI on Thursday afternoon that the party is waiting for the "hard copy" of EC's order but they have received information from the poll body "orally that the two leaves symbol has been allotted to" the EPS-OPS faction.

Later in the month, TTV Dhinarakan, accused of trying to bribe an Election Commission official in an attempt to get the two leaves symbol for his faction*, was arrested by Delhi Police. The Madras high court had earlier ordered EC to conduct the bypoll, cancelled in April this year over large-scale attempts by all parties to bribe voters, by December 30.

The EC had then frozen the AIADMK party name and its symbol after then factions had staked claim over it.

Panneerselvam, who first revolted against Sasikala, later merged his faction with the one led by Palaniswami after the latter rebelled against her. The decision came after when rival parties of O. Panneerselvam and V.K. Sasikala, claimed their right on the party symbol.

Expressing his rejoice over the decision, Tamil Nadu CM E Palaniswami said the EC has given judgement in their favour, as he was enjoying support of majority of party workers.
