Was Vegas shooting terrorism?

He was imprisoned when his son Stephen Paddock - who would go on to carry out the deadliest mass shooting in modern USA history - was born in Iowa in 1953.

But people also noticed something different with the way both the police and the media reported the case: They were more protective of the white shooter's rights compared to other similar cases involving people of other races.

The gunman was found dead by Las Vegas SWAT officers in his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Married and divorced twice, Stephen Paddock most recently lived in Mesquite, Nevada, with his girlfriend Marilou Danley, who police said was out of the country during the shooting.

Authorities said a sweep of law enforcement databases showed that before the rampage, Paddock had no known run-ins with police.

"There's no federal law requiring that", Snyder said. He had been stockpiling his firearms since 1982, according to Jill Snyder, special agent in charge at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Before he opened fire on Monday at a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, Paddock was living out his retirement as a high-stakes gambler in a quiet town outside Las Vegas.

Lombardo said the gunman apparently used a "device similar to a hammer" to smash the windows from which he fired in the two-room hotel suite where he had been staying since Thursday.

Lombardo said investigators knew that a gun dealer had come forward to say that he had sold weapons to the suspect, but it was not clear if he was referring to Sullivan. She was initially described by police as a "person of interest" but not a suspect. Those generally include having a political, economic, religious or social goal; and using violence to convey a message to a broader audience than just the victims.

In an odd twist, the father of the accused Las Vegas shooter, Stephen Paddock, was a convicted bank robber who was once on the FBI's Most Wanted list after escaping prison in the 1960's. "It just kept going on", said Steve Smith, a 45-year-old visitor from Phoenix, Arizona.

A Recent Retiree Who Gambled Big: According to brother Eric Paddock, Stephen - a recently retired accountant - spent much of his time in Vegas, where he regularly dropped tens of thousands of dollars in a day.

The disgusting contrast couldn't be more striking - automatic gun fire amid the music of Jason Aldean.

Police identified 64-year old Stephen Paddock, from Mesquite Nevada as the lone gunman.
