Snapchat Launches Location-Based 'Context Cards' With Uber, Goop, TripAdvisor and Others

Users will be able to access basic information about the Snap such as the name of the place where it was taken, what kind of venue it is, and a rating from a partner like TripAdvisor.

"These Snaps include those tagged with the white, venue-specific Geofilters or any Snap that has been submitted to our public Our Story and appears in Snap Map or Search", the company says.

The Context Cards displayed vary depending on the type of venue and the details available about the location.

A Snap spokesperson declined to comment on deal terms with Context Card partners, but said that the feature was built off the company's $114.5 million acquisition of mobile search app Vurb previous year.

Context Cards are the new way to dive deeper into the content you see on Snapchat.

The feature will first roll out to Snapchat users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Some locations also have stories integrated into their Context Cards to make it easy to dive in and watch more Snaps from the places that interest you.

A spokesman for Snap said: 'With Context Cards, Snaps become the visual starting point for learning more about the world empowering our community to get more information about anything that catches their eye.

Snapchat is taking a move straight out of Google's playbook with a new feature that adds restaurant reviews, reservation booking, and ride-hailing directly to snaps.

Snapchat users share millions of videos each day from businesses such as restaurants or hotels.

Additional cards may contain reviews, hours of operation, phone numbers and links to hail a ride or book a reservation.
