Sharad Yadav slams UP administration for postponing Rahul's Amethi visit

The results are expected to be announced by October 25. He will be visiting Amethi after a gap of six months.

While Sonia Gandhi is known for her ability to reach out to parties and build consensus on issues when needed, Rahul Gandhi's skills will be put to test especially after the Bihar episode where Nitish Kumar walked out of the Grand Alliance with Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress.

The 46-year-old will take the mantle from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who has presided over the party for almost 19 years now. Many senior leaders have quit the party, the most recent being Shankersinh Vaghela in Gujarat and Narayan Rane in Maharashtra.

However, Surjewala underlined that party leaders and workers had expressed several times that Rahul Gandhi should take up the responsibility of Congress leadership.

The party also said that the question on Gandhi's elevation as party President would be laid to rest in a month's time, with the culmination of organisational polls.

Besides keeping the Congress flock together, the 47-year-old MP from Amethi has little time in hand to get Opposition parties together before the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Sources while giving the information also say, if there is more than one candidate in the fray then the party will conduct an election for the same.

After the news of Congress party getting a new President and there will be a major change in the leadership of the party the leaders of the party from different states extended their support to Rahul as their new president. In fact, it's a Facebook page that counters propaganda against the Congress and runs an aggressive campaign against the BJP and its leaders.

Earlier, Kumar had requested the Congress district president to reschedule visit of Rahul Gandhi, from October 4 to October 6, in the view of Muharram and Durga idol immersion.
