Sensex catapults to over 348 points, Nifty eyes 10100-mark

Out of 1,941 stocks traded on the NSE, 367 declined, 1100 advanced and 474 remained unchanged today. It closed at 32,182.22 points - up 348.23 points, or 1.09 percent, from its previous close.

A total of 62 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 8 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The markets opened on a positive footing, after plunging nearly 100 points.

Among BSE sectoral indices, realty index gained the most by 1.11 per cent, followed by healthcare 0.87 per cent, metal 0.65 per cent and IT 0.64 per cent.

IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is expected to be the first blue-chip company to come out with its second quarter (Q2) results on October 12.

Reliance Industries rallied 3.88 percent ahead of earnings on Friday after market hours.

TCS stocks gained about 2 per cent while Reliance Industries stocks climbed 4 per cent ahead of its quarterly results tomorrow.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) kept on offloading shares worth net Rs 107.95 crore yesterday, showed provisional data from exchanges.

The BSE small-cap added 1.15 per cent while mid-cap ended 0.98 per cent higher.

On the other hand, the S&P BSE oil and gas index rose by 170.86 points, telecom index by 38.33 points and Teck index by 37.36 points.
