Plattsmouth Community Schools closed Wednesday due to threat

Johnston schools closed after text threats

Classes at Algona Community School District are canceled today due to a threat against the schools.

Johnston Community School District officials decided Monday night to cancel classes for Tuesday because of anonymous and threatening texts parents and others received around 8 p.m. Monday.

The release said Sioux City Police determined there is no credibility to the Sioux City threat and that school will be held at regular hours Wednesday. We take these threats very seriously.

When students arrive at Johnston Community schools in the morning they can expect an increased law enforcement presence.

While McDaniel wouldn't discuss many details of the investigation he says it's likely the messages will continue, though they may come from a new number or numbers. He's encouraging parents or anyone who receives the messages to report them to police.

As of now there is not an expected day and time when classes will resume. McDaniel said his department is working on the case with other law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and they've contacted private cyber security experts.
