Every team in the top 10 except idle Alabama changed positions in the poll released Sunday following Ohio State's last-second victory over Penn State and Iowa State's win over TCU. After putting together a five-play 76-yard touchdown drive in a little over a minute, Ohio State forced Penn State to punt on their ensuing possession.

Alabama is ranked No. 1 for the 99th time, breaking a tie with Notre Dame for the third-most appearances in the top spot in AP Poll history, behind Ohio State (105 times) and Oklahoma (101 times), according to ESPN Stats & Information. At 7-1, Notre Dame has quite the impressive resume.

There was some shuffling at the top this week with Penn State and TCU losing their first games of the season.

The final month of the season should provide some major excitement, especially with a number of teams still in the race for the College Football Playoff. The human element could yet again weigh heavily when considering defending national champion Clemson. Auburn, at Louisville and at Virginia Tech but an ugly loss at Syracuse. Unbeaten Miami and one-loss Oklahoma tucks in behind them. The Badgers should run the table, but need to win the Big Ten title game to make the playoff because their schedule isn't strong. Penn State will be wondering what might have been after blowing a lead against Ohio State. If I was on the selection committee, here's how my top 10 would look.

The Ohio State/Oklahoma debate is an intriguing one.
