Morocco replace Kenya as hosts of the 5th edition of the CHAN

Morocco has been chosen to host the 2018 Championship of African Nations (CHAN).

However a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to award the the hosting rights to Morocco on Saturday means there was the need to replace the Atlas Lions among the team that qualified for the tournament.

Kordy also said that there are two options for this situation, one is participating in the tournament with a strong team and to compete in an easy competition, then the league must be paused.

The tournament, which is reserved for locally-based players in Africa, is scheduled for 12 January to 4 February next year.

CAF says its emergency committee made the decision on Saturday at a meeting in Lagos, Nigeria. Morocco beat a bid from Equatorial Guinea in a fast-tracked process after CAF stripped Kenya of the tournament three weeks ago.

Third candidates, Ethiopia, were not considered, after not providing a letter of guarantee from the country's government.

As hosts Morocco qualify automatically and there was the need for their other slot to be filled.

It will be Egypt's first appearance in the competition.

Egyptian Football Association "EFA" board member Karam Kodry assured that he is against the participation of Egypt's local national team in the 2018 African Nations Championship "CHAN".

They were due to stage the Nations Cup in 2015, but lost the hosting rights, after expressing fears over the spread of the Ebola virus.
