Matthew Stafford expected to play Sunday against Saints

Free Press sports writers Dave Birkett and Carlos Monarrez make their picks for Sunday's Lions-Saints game.

Last week, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was sacked six times by the Carolina Panthers and hurt his ankle in the process.

The Detroit Lions head into Louisiana to take on the New Orleans Saints in a show down of two NFC playoff hopefuls. The Lions have shocked teams this season but this looks like a bad spot as the Saints offense is rolling and in the end I think they get the cover that is starting to rise.

It should also be pointed out that the National Football League ditched the "probable" game designation previous year so questionable is the most likely to play status on the injury report.

Tim Lelito, a former Grand Valley State star who spent his first four pro seasons in New Orleans, is the only reserve guard listed on the roster.

When Lang briefly left a game two weeks ago, he was replaced by Emmett Cleary. The Lions did not immediately respond to a request for comment on why Washington is out.

The rest of the inactives: Receiver Kenny Golladay (hamstring), running back Dwayne Washington (quad), running back Tion Green, linebacker Paul Worrilow (knee) and defensive lineman Datone Jones.
