Lowell residents in shock after boy dies in pit bull attack

A MA town is mourning the loss of a young boy who was mauled to death by two pit bulls.

A 7-year-old boy in Lowell, Massachusetts was mauled to death on Saturday by two pit bulls after he entering a fenced area which contained the dgos. "It was actually horrific to watch". Two 100-, 120-pound pit bulls ... "No one knew what to do - probably 15 people just watching it happen ... just screaming".

The child was attacked by the two dogs inside a fenced area of a Clare Street residence around 6 p.m., according to the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

Another person told The Globe that the girlfriend of the dogs' owner had told the boys to stay away from the dogs. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Roger Rodriguez, 56, and his girlfriend, Jean Remon, 45, said they saw the boy playing outside with a group of children earlier in the day and later saw his body covered by a white sheet in the driveway.

That pit bull was later captured and euthanized. He said that male was shot dead by the police while escaping while the female pit bull was in the custody of city.

The district attorney's office has not yet identified the child, and charges have yet to be filed as of early Sunday.
