Jane Fonda Is "Ashamed" She Didn't Speak Up About Harvey Weinstein Sooner

Jane Fonda'ashamed she didn't call out Weinstein

Jane Fonda was told of sexual harassment allegations surrounding Harvey Weinstein past year, the Hollywood actress has revealed. "I only met Harvey when I was old and Harvey goes for young because that's more vulnerable".

When the host pressed the iconic star as to why she didn't say anything when she first heard about his allegedly abusive behavior, including rape, Fonda expressed regret.

"I found out about Harvey about a year ago and I'm ashamed that I didn't say anything right then", the actress said during an interview with CNN.

After Weinstein's alleged assaults went public last Thursday, Fonda said in response,"I'm ashamed that I didn't say anything right then".

She revealed that she has only ever encountered Weinstein once, but she didn't feel uncomfortable around him - possibly because of her age at that point.

Praising the fearless women who have come out to speak out about the allegations, Fonda admits: 'I'm glad it's coming out, I'm so proud of those fellow actors that are speaking up. "He made things very hard for me for years", she told the New Yorker.

Fonda, an Academy Award victor, spoke to Amanpour about her own past experiences with sexual harassment and abuse.

When pressed by Amanpour, Fonda said this sort of thing also happened to her in the past-though never perpetrated by Weinstein. "In offices and businesses all over the world, in bars, and restaurants and stores, women are assaulted, abused, harassed and seen for just being sexual objects, there for a man's desire, instead of as whole human beings".

Revealing she was informed of Weinstein's alleged sexual harassment by actress Rosanna Arquette - one of several women who has spoken out against the 65-year-old producer - Fonda added: 'It came as a shock and a great disappointment'.

"I mean Donald Trump is - we have a man who is president who does these things". "What kind of a message does that say?" Unfortunately, that counteracts a lot of the good that we're doing.
