Even Porsche Has a Car Subscription Service Now

Porsche races into Netflix-style subscription model

Even better news for those intrigued: there are no mileage caps, unlike some rival car-subscription services, which means a cross-country road trip via Porsche 911 is A-OK in Porsche's eyes.

As to how the program works, subscribers simply need to fire up their Porsche Passport app, select which vehicle they want and when they want it, and Porsche will handle the rest.

Those interested in the service must simply download the Porsche Passport application on either Apple or Android smartphones, and he or she can register.

Porsche says that the program requires a $500 one-time activation fee that covers a background check. This on-demand vehicle subscription service provides access to a total of 22 models and variants, including the Cayenne S E-Hybrid SUV, the Macan GTS, and the 911 Carrera S.

"Accelerate": Includes on-demand access to 22 model variants such as the Porsche 911 Carrera S, the Panamera 4S sports sedan, the Macan GTS and Cayenne S E-Hybrid SUVs, in addition to the vehicles offered in the "Launch" package, for a monthly fee of $3,000. A minimum 30-day commitment is required for both plans. "Catering to customers' desire to experience our sports cars in new ways is a part of our core strategy", said Klaus Zellmer, head of Porsche North America, in a release. "With Porsche Passport, we now offer our customers a simple and flexible driving solution at their fingertips".

Porsche has dubbed the service Porsche Passport.

When you think of subscription services, media-based companies like Spotify and Netflix are probably the first ones to come to mind.

Starting at $2,000 per month, Porsche Passport will debut as a pilot program in Atlanta in November with plans to expand to other markets eventually. "Clutch is proud to be the enabling technology behind the service". Expansion into other markets will be determined after feedback from Atlanta customers, a company spokesperson told The Verge on Tuesday.

Instead, subscribers of the month-to-month program will get to choose from up to 22 different cars, depending on membership tier.
