His apology comes after footage showing Momoa joking about his character and the "rape handsome women" while speaking at a Comic-Con panel resurfaced online.

The American actor, who plays Khal Drogo on the long-running HBO fantasy show, said filming rape scenes was an enjoyable aspect of working on the series. The actor and his fellow "Game of Thrones" co-stars were speaking on a panel at Comic-Con when he made the comment. Although he used to be a fan-favorite character of "Game of Thrones" fans, many were surprised to learn about his rape joke after it resurfaced in the wake of #Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault scandal.

Social media users were quick to react with disappointment after seeing the footage.

Momoa elaborated on the comments in an interview with the New York Post.

After someone asked Momoa what he liked about being on the show, he said he loves being able to "get away" with so much stuff, like ripping someone's tongue out of their throat, and getting to "rape lovely women".

"Yeah, I'm raping Emilia [Clarke, who plays Daenerys]. I prefer my women to enjoy sex", he said.

It comes as Momoa's co star in the upcoming Justice League film, Ben Affleck, admitted he "acted inappropriately" and apologised to One Tree Hill's Hilarie Burton.
