Children's plates, bowls recalled because of choking hazard

Posing Choking Risk Millions of Children's Playtex Plates and Bowls Recalled

About 1.9 million of the affected products were sold in Canada between January 2010 and August 2017.

Playtex Mealtime Sets are being recalled in Canada and the United States. There have been four reports of children choking.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall, saying the plates have a clear plastic layer over various printed designs.

The CPSC reports a clear plastic layer over the illustrations can bubble or peel.

By law, USA manufacturers, importers and retailers are required to report products that fail safety standards to the commission.

The Playtex brand plates and bowls were manufactured with colorful graphics such as giraffes, superheroes and princesses. They were sold at Babies "R" Us, Target, Walmart, and other stores throughout the US, as well as online through Amazon.

If you own any of the recalled products, stop using them immediately, and take them from young children. They word "Playtex" is stamped on the bottom.

Playtex is offering a full refund for anyone with the products.

The China-manufactured bowls and plates have "Playtex" written on the bottom, the firm said.
