Arsene Wenger rejects Mesut Ozil to Manchester United speculation

Mertesacker lauds compatriot Ozil after Everton thumping

Arsene Wenger has said the Arsenal attack has room for improvement despite Sunday's 5-2 demolition of Everton at Goodison Park.

"We started really well and then to be 1-0 behind was hard".

However, the Germany worldwide appeared fully focused yesterday as he produced a superb performance in Arsenal's 5-2 victory away to Everton, during which he scored and provided an assist for Alexandre Lacazette.

'If you put players into categories, I would put him in the with Mkhitaryan and Mata, so you already have two players like this, ' the 40-year-old added.

For now, though, Ozil will be determined to impress for Arsenal and yesterday the midfielder demonstrated what he is capable of when at his best, especially when he is deployed alongside players such as Alexis Sanchez and Lacazette. We couldn't finish, their keeper kept them in the game and suddenly we were 1-0 down. The victory was also another flawless response to those who thought they were going to struggle in another away game against a top six side.

With Mesut Ozil known for his lack of ability to track back, and try and win the ball back, it would be controversial to ask Lacazette to do less work on the rest of the pitch, so I have to disagree somewhat to Ian Wright's opinion.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil over the past fortnight. "He was sharp physically, very mobile, makes him unsafe about any defender".

"He was superb", said Wenger, "Agile, quick, intelligent".

"I told him after the game that a fit Ozil is completely different".

"He was on fire, he's worked very hard".

"We live in an environment where we have to deal with wrong news", the Frenchman said at his post-match press conference.

"The most complete offensive and defensive performance of the season".
