Another US Aircraft Carrier Fleet Deployed to Pacific

USS Theodore Roosevelt

USS Theodore Roosevelt left San Diego earlier this month and is expected to arrive at the Persian Gulf soon.

The Roosevelt is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier that carries about 80 aircraft, including FA-18E/F Super Hornet fighter jets.

The Aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and its accompanying strike group entered the 7th Fleet area of operations (AOO) on Monday, transferring its task force designation from the 5th fleet to the seventh.

The Nimitz entered the 7th Fleet area of operations following operations in support of the fight against the Islamic State in the Middle East.

The U.S. military has ramped up pressure on the North by sending B-1 strategic bombers to the Korean Peninsula and putting the Reagan strike group in Korean waters for an extended period.

The US Navy says the deployment of the USS Nimitz, the third carrier, was previously planned, but the US Navy has been busy near Korea.

The Reagan's carrier strike group specializes in training and material readiness and has been focusing on bilateral training exercises and is to increase the readiness of USA and Republic of Korea (ROK) forces.

The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) with embarked Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 11 and Carrier Air Wing 11 (CVW 11), and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 9 arrived in the US 7 Fleet area of operations (AOO), Oct. 25, after concluding operations in USA 5 Fleet.

On Tuesday, Gen. Jeong Kyeong-doo, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and U.S. Forces Korea chief Gen. Vincent Brooks, met on the nuclear-powered USS Ronald Reagan warship anchored off the coast in Busan.

The US has three aircraft carriers in the Pacific amid soaring tensions with North Korea.

To date, North Korea has fired 22 missiles in 15 separate tests in calendar year 2017, most recently firing two missiles that flew over Japan on August 29 and September 15.

The first operational deployment of the U.S. Air Force's F-35A Lightning II fighters are also set to deploy to Japan.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt will conduct maritime security operations, theater security cooperation, and port visits while deployed in the Asia-Pacific. "When a carrier leaves on deployment, we have to be ready for anything".
