Amazon hiring thousands of seasonal workers in IN for the holidays

Amazon wants to hire 120,000 U.S. workers for the holidays

That's not because it expects flat holiday sales.

Amazon hired about the same number of temporary workers during last year's holiday season.

Korn Ferry surveyed 20 major USA retailers last month and found 80% plan to hire the same or more seasonal workers than past year.

The online superstore has just announced they are hiring 120,000 temporary workers across 33 states for the 2017 holiday season.

Amazon on Thursday said the seasonal jobs will be spread out over more than 75 fulfillment centers countrywide to help pick, pack and ship holiday orders.

Target Corp.: Target plans to hire approximately 100,000 store team members across the country - up from 70,000 a year ago - and 4,500 at its distribution and fulfillment centers.

Industry surveys predict that shoppers will spend more money this year than they did in 2016 on holiday shopping.

But the e-commerce market is not in the same state as it was previous year.

Macy's Inc.: Macy's plans to hire approximately 80,000 seasonal associates for positions at its Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers nationwide.

Overall, U.S. retailers are expected to hire 25,000 fewer workers this holiday season, the National Retail Federation said, citing strong staffing levels and companies such as Wal-Mart offering existing workers more hours rather than adding temp workers. Annual wage also rose by 2.9% in September.
