A California Restaurant Got Caught Serving Popeye's Chicken to Customers

Restaurant serves Popeyes chicken

If you like Popeye's chicken, then you'll definitely like a California restaurant's recipe.

The reviewer, Tyler H., said he saw Sweet Dixie employees carrying Popeye's boxes into the kitchen. Sanchez also admits that they sometimes the restaurant get carnitas from other restaurants, "and if we run out of our own slow cooked pork, in order to keep our menu intact, I will order a batch of carnitas from the best place in Long Beach", she wrote.

It was a tale of two chicken restaurants.

Sanchez cited her ill-equipped kitchen and its age in defending her decision. He chose to order chicken and waffles to see if Popeyes chicken was used; if you've had Popeyes, you know it has a distinct flavor. "I kindly asked our waiter how they cooked their fried chicken. I love it. I think it's the best chicken out there". "We're an old building".

Sanchez said they have always drawn upon ready-made chicken, even before opting for Popeyes (versus a food distribution brand).

Sweet Dixie Kitchen's Yelp page is now under an "active cleanup alert", Yelp's process for handling businesses that are "in the news" by removing reviews from people who don't seem to have actually eaten there. The fact that she touts her "made from scratch" items has social media chowhounds howling with a mixture of glee and self-righteous rage. "So I serve it".

Sweet Dixie owner Kimberly Sanchez appeared to reply to the review, saying that they "proudly serve Popeyes spicy tenders". We make quiche- as in crack each egg and measure spices and cream, and I put it in a pie crust that was made elsewhere (isn't made here) We use the best product I can buy to make the items on the menu- some of them again, come from other companies, vendors, establishments just like any other place you eat at.

"The owner of Sweet Dixie has a message to share with all our customers. On our menu- roughly 95% is house made- starting with a potato lets say- which we cut, season and cook- and make potato salad". With that, the waiter admitted they use Popeye's chicken and then comped the entire meal. So just know if you get the chicken there, you could get that same $13 dish for around $5 just down the road.

"We didn't do anything wrong", said Sanchez.

The owner claimed she is waiting to hear back from Popeyes about a potential "partnership", Fox reported. While plenty of people happily fork over $10 to 15 bucks for the dish (or its cousin, chicken and waffles) at bougie breakfast spots, few would be willing to pay as much at Popeye's.

The chain has not responded to her inquiry.
