A MI non-profit is working to save lives and educate people across the state on railway safety.

- Friday will center on trespass prevention, with Operation Lifesaver urging students, employees and others to participate in a "red-out for rail safety awareness" event by having everyone wear red.

In an attempt to change that statistic, the MBTA, Keolis Commuter Services and Transit Police have teamed up with Operation Lifesaver to launch Rail Safety Week.

OLI held the conference to kick off the United States' first national coordinated Rail Safety Week, which runs through Saturday.

Cars or people too close to the tracks are still at risk since trains overhang the tracks by at least three feet in both directions, according to Operation Lifesaver.
