Steelers trade WR Sammie Coates to Browns for draft pick

Predicting the Steelers 10-man practice squad

Cleveland acquired Sammie Coates and gave back the 2018 sixth round pick they got for cornerback Justin Gilbert previous year while also adding a 2019 seventh round pick.

Coates (6-1, 212 pounds) was originally a third-round pick of the Steelers out of Auburn in 2015. The Steelers will receive the Browns sixth-round draft pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Cleveland hopes Coates will add some much needed depth at the wide receiver position.

Coates suffered multiple injuries last season, and he was ineffective in the Steelers' passing game when he was on the field. The team's starters are Britt and 2016 first-round pick Corey Coleman.

Coates isn't exactly a superstar or a complete game-changer, and won't be making any huge strides with the Browns, but he'll surely contribute to the team's offense that is sorely lacking in receivers at the moment.

- Coates had his best statistical game previous year against the Jets, catching six passes for 116 yards and a 72-yard touchdown from Ben Roethlisberger. But with the return of Martavis Bryant to the fold in Pittsburgh, Coates became expendable.

Pittsburgh signed former Browns cornerback Joe Haden on Thursday hours after he was released.
