Son of actor Jean-Claude Van Damme is arrested in Arizona

Nicholas Van Varenberg

Nicholas Van Varenberg, the 21-year-old son of Hollywood action film star Jean-Claude Van Damme, is facing criminal charges after allegedly holding his roommate at knifepoint at their apartment in the United States city of Tempe, Arizona.

According to police report, Van Varenberg was then arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful imprisonment, marijuana possession, assault-cause fear of physical injury, disorderly conduct-fighting and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Van Varenberg didn't have a lawyer at his initial court appearance, and it's unclear if he has one yet with a September 20 preliminary hearing looming.

Showbiz news website TMZ reports police got a call to check on him over claims he had earlier punched the lift in his building. After speaking with him and a roommate, they discovered Nicholas had an injured hand.

He told officers the high-kicking star's son was furious he had opened the door to them.

The cops investigated and left, but returned when the roommate ran downstairs to say he'd been threatened at knifepoint. Authorities then searched the apartment and allegedly found the knife in question as well as marijuana. His bond was originally set at $10,000.

He's the son of Van Damme and model Darcy LaPier.
