Richard Sherman (hamstring) expected to play against 49ers

Sherman did not practice Wednesday or Thursday because of a hamstring injury, but returned as a limited participant Friday.

Last season, the Seahawks beat the 49ers 37-18 in Seattle a week after a desultory 9-3 loss to the Rams, then closed out the regular season with a 25-23 win in the Bay Area after a home defeat to the Cardinals knocked the Seahawks out of the number-two playoff seeding.

Head coach Pete Carroll expressed his overall disappointment in the team's running game last week, saying, "Just disappointed that we didn't get the [opportunities] and that because of a lot of things that happened in the game... He looks like he can play and he looked good today". Rawls is still listed as the starter on Seattle's depth chart.

Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers throws as he is hit by Seattle's Terence Garvin during the second half Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

"He did have to play through some", Carroll said. Look for Kam and Earl to establish a physical tone early, limit big plays, and help the younger corners against a suspect 49ers receiving core. He looked good in training camp and the preseason but was released as part of final roster cutdowns on September 2. They legitimately got broken up. He was always very interested in why and what to expect in all of that and sure enough now we're competing against the guys. "He'll play good football for us".

The expectation is Thomas Rawls will play after sitting out the opener while recovering from a high ankle sprain. Carlos Hyde and the running game also will be Hoyer's best friend on Sunday as the 49ers can't get impatient and ditch that part of their offense too soon. We'll see whether or not he's going to be available. Seattle appears set with the same starting five for this week, but changes could be coming if the mistakes from the Green Bay game continue.

These two teams have a history of playing tight, physical games and the last meeting was decided by just two points.

Seattle coaches and Lane himself have protested there was no punch. Two Packers hit Graham during the play, but officials failed to call pass interference. The third-round pick played 24 snaps in his first game for Seattle and is the primary rotational backup to Jarran Reed and Sheldon Richardson. "I worked all offseason for that game".

Asked if their pregame conversations came to his mind when Lynch got the 49ers' job this past winter, Carroll said, "Yes, it did".

"No. I had no inkling at all", Carroll said this week.
