Qatari Emir at the United Nations calls for 'unconditional dialogue'

Qatari emir patronizes opening of US-Islamic World Forum

"[We want] an unconditional dialogue based on mutual respect for sovereignty".

The nations say Doha supports regional foe Iran and Islamists, charges Qatar's leaders deny.

"Speaking at the US-Islamic World Forum which is held in New York, Al-Thani stressed that the spread of violence and hatred have helped a lot in the eruption and creation of the terrorist organisations". The emir is also scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump on Saturday, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

The US President said he expects that the dispute in the Gulf region would be resolved quickly.

He asserted that Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt were inflicting damage on the "war on terror" with this blockade.

"The countries who imposed the unjust blockade on Qatar have intervened in the internal affairs of the State by putting pressure on its citizens through foodstuffs, medicine and ripping off consanguineous relations to force them change their political affiliation to destabilize a sovereign country", he said.

A Gulf official from one of the opposing countries said it was "unfortunate that Emir Tamim continues to talk about a blockade when even he in the same speech acknowledged that his ship lanes are open".

For more than 100 days Qatar has been subject to a Saudi-led boycott that shuttered Qatar's only land border, denied air space to its national airline and suspended maritime links.
