PewDiePie posts apology video after using racial slur

This past weekend, Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg made a dire mistake during a PUBG stream by calling an enemy player the N-word during a heated fire fight.

Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie has apologized for blurting out a racial slur while playing a livestreamed video game. "But that doesn't make what I said or how I said it okay", he said. As BuzzFeed explains, Kjellberg only then chose to once-and-for-all distance himself from Nazi memes and jokes, saying, "If for some reasons Nazis think it's great that I'm making these jokes, I don't want to give them that benefit".

Referencing prior controversies, including the YouTuber paying two man on Fiverr to hold a sign above their heads saying "Death to All Jews", he says he is disappointed in himself for seemingly learning nothing from them.

This latest offensive slip comes after PewDiePie lost contracts with Disney's Maker Studios and YouTube after urging his fans to post anti-Semitic jokes and videos of his featuring reported Nazi imagery. "I owe it to my audience and to myself to do better than this because I know I'm better than this", PewDiePie says in his closing statements. And he said, referring to the popularity of the video itself, "Furthermore, we're complicit: I'm sure we've made money off of the 5.7M views that video has and that's something for us to think about". I'm just an idiot. I don't know how to tell you that whining that "black rappers can say it why can't I?" is unbelievably dumb.

This is far from Kjellberg's first controversy. Being in the position that I am, I should know better. In most cases, I can generally let even the crudest jokes pass without feeling personally attacked. This theory is strengthened by the fact that he immediately said, "I'm sorry but-" as though he had merely dropped a normal curse word in front of a teacher at school. That's how I want to move forward away from this. Do you accept PewDiePie's apology? "I am sick of this child getting more and more chances to make money off of what we make", Vanaman tweeted.

It also makes all the more disingenuous some apologetic statements Kjellberg made in the wake of the incidents in Charlottesville this year, as real-life American white supremacists suddenly made worldwide headlines. Some of these jobs are unloaded at the expense of PewDiePie, especially for his stance against the biased and inflammatory nature of mainstream and enthusiast media (a stance that most normal people share).
