North Korean Foreign Minister: Trump Threat Was Declaration of War

North Korea Bangs the War Drums With the Big Threat It Just Made to the US Mainland

Moments before Ri got up to speak, on the other side of the world, US Air Force B-1B bombers and F-15 jets flew provocatively close to North Korean airspace, in a "show of force" meant to counter what the Pentagon called Pyongyang's "reckless behavior".

"If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won't be around much longer!" he tweeted.

On Sept. 22, Kim issued an unprecedented statement for a North Korean leader aimed at Trump, using the first person in several parts to attack the USA president.

"None other than Trump himself is on a suicide mission", Ri told the assembly Saturday.

"North Korea's weapons programme is a grave threat to the Asia-Pacific region and the entire worldwide community". Ri said Trump will "pay dearly" for his speech Tuesday.

Ri turned around Trump's words Saturday, saying it is the USA president who "is on a suicide mission".

Since early August, the USA has successfully pushed for two rounds of tighter worldwide sanctions on North Korea, following two intercontinental ballistic missile tests and launches over northern Japan.

Mr Trump on Thursday signed a new order boosting sanctions against North Korea, where the United States treasury would target firms and financial institutions doing business with Pyongyang.

Since assuming office, Trump has also joined in with bold language of his own, warning North Korea that he could visit "fire" and "fury" on the authoritarian regime if it threatened the U.S.

In a show of American military might, USA bombers and fighter escorts flew in global airspace on Saturday to the farthest point north of the border between North Korea and South Korea that any such American aircraft has gone in this century.

Thousands of North Koreans held a massive anti-U.S. demonstration in Pyongyang over the weekend, rallying around their leader as he intensifies his war of words with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Mr Ri had told the United Nations that Mr Trump had made an "irreversible mistake" by belittling his leader with the moniker.

In a statement on Friday, Kim described US President Trump as a "mentally deranged dotard", after which Ri referred to the US president as "Mr".

"This is the farthest north of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) any USA fighter or bomber aircraft have flown off North Korea's coast in the 21st century", White said. "In case innocent lives of the USA are lost because of this suicide attack, Trump will be held totally responsible".

"The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea", Trump had told world leaders.

"Washington and Pyongyang have traded insulting and personal remarks since North Korea conducted its sixth and most powerful" nuclear test earlier this month.

In July, it conducted two tests of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that experts say is capable of striking a large chunk of the US, and last week it lobbed an intermediate-range missile over northern Japan and into the Pacific Ocean for the second time.

Mr Wang told the United Nations on Thursday that there should be no new nuclear weapons on the Korean peninsula "whether it is in the North or the South".
