Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari informed on Twitter about the attack.

Earlier, Hassan explained - in a statement issued following the attack - that while he was uninjured, two of his guards and a citizen were reportedly wounded by the gunshots.

One of the assailants was shot dead in retaliatory firing, police said, while another was injured but managed to flee. Police also said they had recovered a 9mm pistol and a motorcycle used by the killed attacker from the scene of the incident, the report said.

MQM-P chief Dr Farooq Sattar told a press conference later that the Sindh government can not be absolved of responsibility in the incident.

The politician, Khawaja Izharul Hasan, escaped the attack this morning during Eid prayers in the city of Karachi.

IG Sindh Khawaja said that police is trying to identify the culprits behind the attack and will arrest them soon.

Leader of Opposition Khursheed Shah said that if the perpetrators of the attack on Khawaja Izhar aren't caught then the situation can lead to similar attacks in future.

The Home Minister has also directed the AIG Karachi to investigate the matter thoroughly and present a report in this regard.

Talking to media outside residence of Khwaja Izhar he said this is a conspiracy to sabotage the peace of the city. "Already, people are frustrated with the way Karachi was completely neglected in the aftermath of the [recent] rains".
