The Catalan media claim that Barcelona are in negotiations with Monaco to try and sign Liverpool target Thomas Lemar.

The second major Liverpool transfer narrative indicates that Anfield put in a record bid for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

The Reds are reported to have first made an approach for the 21-year-old earlier this summer and their interest remains active. That, plus the tax-free wages in Monaco, make it not hard to understand why it might be an attractive destination for him.

Monaco have lost Tiemoue Bakayoko, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva to the Premier League following last season's title triumph.

"It's (move for Lemar) dead because Monaco have closed the door definitely, I think", Wenger was quoted as saying by FourFourTwo.

The Principality club announced the £27 million signing of Balde Keita from Lazio yesterday and the Senegal global is widely viewed as a replacement for Lemar. "We have the numbers and quality to deal with that".

The 22-year-old Senegal worldwide was a star of Serie A last season, scoring 16 goals during his 39 appearances in all competitions for Lazio.

"It is not about confidence in this situation, it is about what the owners have said". He's an incredible forward-thinking player, always looking to find teammates in behind with slick passes.
