Kashmir: Encounter breaks out in Uri,4 militants believed to be trapped

Gunfight Start at Kalgi area of Uri in North Kashmir Baramulla District. As per reports, the forces had reportedly detected movement of infiltrators in Kalgi area following which a cordon was laid in the area and a search operation was launched.

Security forces had launched an operation in Kaghi forest area of Uri tehsil on Sunday morning following specific information about a group of heavily-armed militants hiding there.

"The security personnel were assisted by army helicopters in locating the position of militants", they said. Last year, militants had attacked the Army brigade headquarters in Uri, close to the Line of Control. A search operation has been on since Saturday night and the area has been cordoned off.

In the early morning the civilians were rescued and the militant was killed.

With killing of all the three terrorists who appear to be Pakistanis, a major terrorist attack was averted. In the encounter that followed, the three terrorists were killed.

"However, before it could have exploded, a Special Police Officer (SPO) present inside the vehicle showed the presence of mind and threw the grenade on the road".
