The 29-year-old Frenchman's new deal runs until 2021.

Vice-captain Marcelo, Isco and Dani Carvajal have all extended their deals to remain until 2022 over the past week with Real rewarding key members of the squad.

"Real Madrid C.F. and Karim Benzema have agreed an extension to the player's contract, binding him to the club until 30 June 2021", the club announced via a statement on their official website.

Benzema will not play against Betis on Wednesday night as the result of a knee injury, which will sideline him for another couple of weeks.

Since moving to the Bernabeu from Lyon in 2009 in a £38 million deal, Benzema has racked up 181 goals in 371 appearances for Los Blancos, lifting three Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and two FIFA Club World Cups along the way.

But how does Benzema's release clause compare to other players in Europe?

Despite being linked with an exit for the past dozen consecutive transfer windows, but today Karim Benzema has committed his long-term future to Real Madrid.

As well as helping Ronaldo to smash Madrid's all-time goalscoring records, Benzema has also been a prolific scorer himself.

Benzema has been ostracised by France at global level since 2015 due to his alleged role in a sex-tape plot aimed at blackmailing former worldwide teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
