Suchetgarh BSF and Pakistan Rangers officials during a Sector Commander level Flag Meeting at the border in Suchetgarh area on Friday

A day after Border Security Forces held a commander-level flag meeting with Pak Rangers, the officers have detected another under-construction trans-border tunnel in Arnia sub-sector of RS Pura sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

In August, another trans-border tunnel was discovered in the Pallanwala sector of Jammu district.

Reports quoting BSF sources said the tunnel was found in the forest area of Damala nalah in Arnia sector.

"An under construction tunnel was discovered during sanitisation operation along the global border between Vikram and Patel posts near Damana in Arnia sector. The BSF has not lowered its guard but had remained alert, knowing the history of Pakistan which on the face value does something else but behind it are upto something else", he said, adding it is because of the "alertness" of the force that the tunnel was detected.

He said the opening end of the tunnel was in Pakistan side while its dead end was 14 meters between border fence and zero line.

He said the digging tools, fresh dug earth and length of tunnel indicates that the tunnelling work has started some days back with an intent to infiltrate a strong group of militants into this side to foment trouble in the State.

He said the Pakistani Rangers might be aware of the digging of the tunnel because nothing escapes the eyes of the BSF long the global border.

The army also recovered several weapons and accessories from the tunnel.

Last meeting of Sector Cdr level was held on March 9, 2017.

This meeting is the first Sector Commander level meeting on request of Pakistan Rangers between two border guarding forces since heavy shelling and firing experienced on the International Border in the month of September 2017.

The officials said a special drive for the detection of tunnels had been started all along the global border in the wake of heightened tension between the two sides.
