Injury news ahead of Champions League opener

The Senegal forward incurred a direct red card for a high challenge on City goalkeeper Ederson

In another group stage matchup of the day in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League, Feyenoord takes on Manchester City at 2:45 PM EST in De Kuip.

But he is yet to play a minute of the current campaign and on Tuesday he was left out of City's Champions League squad for Wednesday's game against Feyenoord.

"There were a lot of Holland players in my (Barcelona) team".

City's players will certainly not be taking the game lightly, with more than enough of them having tasted disappointment at the group stage before. The 24-year-old does has been impressive but playing him again so soon could be risky.

"I think the English teams are a step back in that respect, ' he said".

"Feyenoord have more European titles than City", Guardiola said.

Toure has endured a hard relationship with Guardiola since the Spaniard took charge at the Etihad at the start of last season. I know how complicated it is.

Manager Pep Guardiola will make a late decision but revealed on the eve of the Group F match that Ederson was training well. When asked about the Ivorian's absence from his side, the City manager said: "I spoke with him, he knows the reason why". That, in turn, led to a longer period of isolation.

"But the decision is he didn't play the last game, and today he is not in the squad and he knows the reason why".

Another player who will not feature is captain Vincent Kompany, who continues to be troubled by the calf injury.

Although Guardiola and his staff had been concerned about Toure before the transfer window closed, there were no available funds to sign a replacement because moves for Jonny Evans and Alexis Sanchez went down to the wire, and no viable targets had been pursued to an extent to strike a deal at short notice.

Guardiola's goalkeeper Ederson was an emblem of the spirit he hinted is missing in Toure.

The Rotterdam club, coached by former Arsenal player Giovanni van Bronkhorst, won their first Dutch title in 18 years last season and are returning to the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2002. The Brazilian has been training wearing protective headgear after suffering facial injuries in a nasty clash with Liverpool's Sadio Mane at the weekend.
