Singer Fergie has said that she and estranged husband actor Josh Duhamel finally chose to go public with their split as it was getting a little weird pretending to be together.

Thankfully, though, it was also revealed that the couple parted ways with great admiration for each other and that there were no explosive fights or arguments, just a mutual understanding of what they think is right.

A source said about their split, "They have been leading separate lives for a long time".

The insider said: 'She wants to be out on the road doing her thing, while he is more chill. And, although they're no longer together, the pair are thoroughly enjoying co-parenting their four-year-old son Axl and believe his school have helped them adjust to single life.

The former couple recently confirmed their split the news in a joint statement. "There's no flawless time so we just chose to [announce] it". "We just wanted to get adjusted in private", Fergie explained of the couple's decision to delay announcing their separation. "We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family".

They married in 2009 and have a 4-year-old son, Axl.

Fergie talked to People.com about the breakup and how it had been starting to get hard fielding questions about their romance, especially since she's been in the limelight promoting her new album, Double Duchess.

Duhamel previously admitted that they never discussed their work with each other, saying that keeping out of each other's careers helped their marriage.

"And I get to help out and serve them snacks and clean the dishes". I tried that for a little bit. You get down in the sand and get dirty - I love it. And I'm like, "Okay!"
