Other individuals identified as "subjects" of Mueller's investigation include Flynn himself and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

The retired U.S. Army general's paid work for Turkey during the campaign and transition is also under investigation. Representatives Elijah Cummings and Eliot Engel made the disclosure in a letter they sent on Tuesday to Flynn's lawyer and executives of firms that developed the reactor scheme and for which Flynn's now-defunct consulting company worked.

Responses from the executives "provided multiple independent confirmations" of the trip, Reps Cummings and Engel wrote in a followup letter this week, allegedly putting Mr Flynn in violation of federal law because he did not report those trips on a 2016 application for high-level security clearance.

After the letter's release, the Wall Street Journal reported that the elder Mr Flynn had indeed promoted the nuclear power project while serving as national security adviser, citing former security council staffers.

The lobbying activities of Michael G. Flynn, the son of President Trump's former national security adviser, are being examined by the special counsel investigating possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation during the 2016 election, according to people familiar with the probe.

During his vetting process as Trump's national security adviser, Flynn failed to declare a 2015 tip to Moscow on which he received a $33,000 fee and sat with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Flynn's son was on the Trump transition team, which was headed by Vice President Mike Pence.

Flynn's attorney, Robert Kelner, declined to comment on the letter.

The son of President Donald Trump's disgraced former national security adviser has fallen under investigation for his ties to Russian Federation.

The Flynn Intel Group reportedly took in $530,000 last year for work benefiting the Turkish government, though the elder Flynn only registered as a foreign lobbyist this year.

House Democrats provided details in a letter to special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating wether Trump campaign aides colluded with Russian Federation to win the White House. In response, officials from the United States companies provided statements to the Democrats, confirming Flynn's trip in 2015.
