Chargers begin LA era against Broncos

Denver Broncos will rely heavily on Australian giant Adam Gotsis in their NFL regular season opener

This should better complement C.J. Anderson's aggressive running style, as well as simplify matters for a revamped Denver offensive line.

The Broncos offense is not going to be lighting people up this year. "He wants to go out and put as many points as he can on any team". Crick dealt with back spasms for much of the preseason, with a knee bruise being the injury that has sidelined Kerr.

The NFL season is ready for action on this Sunday and the Denver Broncos have three players ready to shake off the 2016 downer. They had a 1-8 record in one-score games - including a road loss to the Browns, who did not manage to beat anyone else all year. It peaked during the past two seasons as the Broncos' defensive backs coach, when he helped maximize the performances of one of the best secondaries in National Football League history. Joseph decided during the preseason to stick with Trevor Siemian at quarterback for a second year. It was an effort led by two new defensive linemen, nose tackle Domata Peko and defensive end Zach Kerr, whom the Broncos added in the offseason with the expressed objective of stuffing the run.

There are other reasons this is a big game for the Broncos: It's a divisional game in the ultra-competitive AFC West, where teams can ill afford a home loss.

While Philip Rivers' (above, right) track record against the Broncos in Denver isn't particularly good, he can take some comfort in knowing that he will have a full complement of weapons tonight. Expect to see one of those weapons targeted often.

Despite the return of an outstanding supporting cast, Rivers' chances for a monster performance appear slim. Add in a healthy Travis Benjamin and the reliable Dontrelle Inman, who is questionable Monday, and the Chargers have the talent required to match up with Denver's terrific secondary, which is led by cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr. Siemian will need four new offensive linemen to jell quickly and top-flight wideouts Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders to be at their best. "I have to continue to grow in that aspect and I think once we get going into some games, that's when it will really come along". Is he a boost for the Broncos offense or will he be a detriment to them? Former Chargers head coach Mike McCoy is running the Denver offense and he knows where the team can be attacked. That makes this matchup intriguing and a bit of a mystery as well. "But it's special to go back to a place where I played and lived for so long, and grew up as a young adult". Monday, his defense will have its hands full making sure Rivers doesn't run through it. Weapons abound for the veteran Chargers quarterback, starting with a healthy wideout Keenan Allen, who has been dominant during the preseason after missing all of past year with a knee injury.

It has been a tumultuous few months for the Chargers.
