Barack Obama reveals reaction after dropping Malia at college

During a January 2016 interview, Obama said he would be too emotionally distraught to speak at his daughter's high school graduation because he would be overwhelmed with tears.

It was reported the former president's daughter retaliated by saying "are you gonna take it in my face like an animal in a cage?"

According to People, Obama said that there were certain fundamental aspects of life that he and his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, taught their daughters: being kind, considerate, empathetic and hardworking.

Obama then admitted that he shed a few tears out of Malia's sight and described the moment as a "rough" time.

Barack Obama, the 44th chief executive, now 56, recently spoke about the emotional goodbye with his daughter, Malia, 19, when she began at Harvard University in August.

"It is proper and right that somebody as thoughtful and genuine and strong as Beau made it one of his missions that every child has protection", Obama said.

Obama said she tries to model reacting with generosity, but she acknowledged that it's particularly hard for Malia - who just started her freshman year at Harvard - to deal with 20 to 30 people each day coming up to her and saying, "Do I know you?" or "Can I get a picture with you?"

I was proud that I did not cry in front of her.

Obama clarified that he did not cry in front of his daughter, but the return journey was a different story.

Biden introduced Obama at the Wilmington Country Club in DE on Monday, calling him a "great friend". And though President Obama put up a courageous face in front of her, he revealed during a speech that as the Secret Service was driving him home, he was a blubbering mess, just like any parent.
