Arsene Wenger: 'Alexis Sanchez will win the fans back'

Arsene Wenger tells Alexis Sanchez to accept mixed response and start performing

"He's a team player, Danny Welbeck, and that's why coaches love him", Wenger said when asked about Welbeck. I liked his second goal today because it was the clean finish of a goalscorer.

There has been talk that Alexis could now become a problem for the Arsenal team in the dressing room, and that he could possibly down tools after having his wishes turned down, but Wenger is of the belief that will not be the case.

With the effervescent Sanchez yet to return to full fitness after injury and illness, Arsenal's attack was spearheaded by the brilliant Danny Welbeck - who scored a brace - and record signing Alexandre Lacazette, who added a stunning goal of his own.

This was the first time Welbeck has scored more than once in a Premier League game since he netted twice for Manchester United in a 3-0 win at Aston Villa in December 2013.

Wenger, however, provided better news regarding Jack Wilshere after revealing that the England global is closing in on a return to action. We had a committed, disciplined and a very good offensive performance. That's what we needed.

The long-serving Bournemouth boss said: "You can get bad results in the Premier League, but when you don't have performances, that's where concerns creep in".

Sanchez started in the 4-0 defeat against Liverpool before the global break and came close to leaving to join Manchester City on deadline day.

Yes I'm pleased with the win and the way we played. We had plenty of chances and were a bit unlucky at Stoke because we had 75 per cent possession and we didn't deserve to lose the game.

Arsenal now turn their attention to the Europa League, where they open their campaign at home to Cologne on Thursday.

Next weekend Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Premier League.

But for Saturday at least the cheers he received upon entering the field of play were as warm as they were expected - although it was interesting to note it was Giroud's name that was sung first by the fans as the pair waited to come on.
