After a superb dink from Jack Wilshere, who made his first start for the Gunners since May 2016, the French striker nearly walked away with the 2017/18 "Goal Of The Season" award with seven months of the campaign remaining.

Prior to last night's 1-0 victory against Doncaster Rovers, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger gave a former rival a warm welcome and the duo reportedly had a friendly exchange. He needs intense games of 90 minutes.

"Ozil is in training and will come back with the team today or tomorrow".

Other than that, expect to see a spattering of veterans mixed in with the youngsters. Any kind of injury picked up in a game like this would have opened up a supersized can of worms. This was another useful 90-minute workout.

Bournemouth were the only Premier League side hosting a Carabao Cup fixture this week that registered a higher crowd than for their most recent home Premier League match. His hunger to play manifested itself in a display full of chasing causes, darting runs and a willingness to shoot.

With that much quality it was simply a case of waiting for Arsenal to score, regardless of how hard Doncaster worked in their 5-4-1 system to keep them out.

'It looks just like a kick, not more than that'.

A first-half Theo Walcott goal was ultimately all that separated the two teams and, with Arsenal actually pinned back for significant sections of the second-half, Doncaster had several clear chances to force the game into extra time.

"To get Arsenal and be that close to a semi-final was heartbreaking, really". Ben Whiteman should then have done better when running in behind. Liam Mandeville's clever cut-back and shot was deflected.

But, after seeing his side hang on against Arsenal's early assault before pushing for a dramatic equaliser late on, Ferguson said he was "proud" of his players. "They did a lot of the things asked".

Arsenal saw out the game, booking a clash in the next round against Norwich City at the Emirates Stadium.
