Afraid of Sasikala, we lied about Jaya health: Tamil Nadu minister

TN minister reveals Sasikala’s influence in misleading people with Jayalalithaa’s health status

We lied that Amma is eating sambar, chutney, tea, etc, so that you believed that she is improving.

Minister Sreenivasan had even claimed to have had a conversation with J Jayalalithaa at the hospital.

She was admitted to Apollo on the night of September 22 and died in the hospital on December 5.

During the period of stay, the information from the government and the hospital about her health condition was scarce.

Sreenivasan has apologised to people on behalf of all AIADMK leaders and ministers for lying about Jayalalithaa's condition when she was admitted to Apollo Hospital for treatment.

Ever since Jayalalithaa's death, there have been hints of foul play over her death, with critics pointing fingers at the now jailed Sasikala.

Standing firm on his claim, Srinivasan said his government is not bothered about the CBI or any other agencies.

Sreenivasan said that governor, Union ministers, BJP President Amit Shah and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi were not allowed to see her. The decision of Sasikala to anoint her nephew TTV Dinakaran as Chief Minister and to make him contest from RK Nagar constituency which had been represented by Jayalalithaa strained the relations between Palaniswamy and the Sasikala family. "Nobody else met her", he said. Once in a while, with the doctors' permission, she went in and saw the late Chief Minister for a couple of minutes. He also said that he would hand over the CCTV footage of the treatment if a probe was conducted. "We have already announced that a commission led by retired High Court Judge will be formed for a thorough probe".

The government is yet to appoint a retired judge, even a month after the announcement.

Addressing a public meeting at Madurai, 500 km south of Chennai late on Friday, Sreenivasan said, "We had told lies that she (Jayalalithaa) had idlis and people met her".

Though O Panneerselvam, who succeeded her as Chief Minister had ordered a probe into the demise of Jayalalithaa, he was ousted from office and Edappadi K Palaniswami was anointed as Chief Minister on February 15, 2017 by the Sasikala clan.
