Volkswagen Microbus Coming Back To Market

The VW I.D. Buzz microbus

Seeking to reignite Americans' love affair with the microbus, Volkswagen Group said Saturday that it would bring the beloved vehicle back to its lineup.

"After the presentations at the global motor shows in Detroit and Geneva, we received a large number of letters and emails from customers who said, 'please build this auto, '" said Volkswagen brand CEO, Herbert Diess.

"The microbus has always been part of the California lifestyle", CEO Herbert Diess said, according to Forbes.

But it now seems the I.D. Buzz is headed for production, as Volkswagen announced over the weekend at Monterey Car Week that it'll go on sale as a modified production version in 2022, targeted mainly at the US, Europe and China. By harnessing VW's Modular Electric Drive kit (MEB) and recalling the design of the original Type 1 Microbus, the I.D. Buzz concept provides a fully electric, fully connected driving experience, while offering ample space for passengers or cargo.

The microbus is one of America's most beloved vehicles.

The company said it would start selling the I.D. Buzz microbus in 2022.

The new vehicle was created to be a clear throwback to the old microbus. At this time, VW has released that the batteries will be mounted in the floor of the van, allowing for a spacious interior. With a high seating capacity, room for lots of cargo, and versatility, combined with an option for an all-wheel drive package, Volkswagen believes it is exactly what customers want, and is the ideal fit for a zero-emission lifestyle.
