Valencia complete deal for Arsenal defender Gabriel

Arsenal star on verge of leaving the club for La Liga giants

He started 37 league games in total, but wasn't the dominating defender Arsenal thought it signed.

Valencia, who will present the defender to the media on Saturday, confirmed Gabriel's contract runs until 2022 and has a release clause of €80m.

Gabriel joined Arsenal from Villarreal in January 2015 but struggled to settle in the Premier League, in part because he did not speak any English when moving to London.

'We would like to thank Gabriel for his contribution to the club and to wish him well for his return to La Liga with Valencia, ' the club said in a statement.

The centre-half failed to really establish himself at the Emirates since joining from Villareal for £11.3m in 2015.

The Brazilian failed to make an impact previous year as the Gunners missed out on Champions League football for the first under Arsene Wenger.

Gabriel is now suffering a slight knee injury, but he also claimed that his knee is in better condition, although he is "still lacking something". meaning he is unlikely to be able to feature in Valencia's opening game of the season.

Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs, Calum Chambers, Carl Jenkinson, Joel Campbell and Lucas Perez could also be offloaded before the end of the month, although Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere all look set to stay.
