United States says Iran not in compliance with nuclear deal

North Korea on parade

Congress requires notification in 90-day intervals that Iran remains in compliance with the deal, which resulted in the lifting of major sanctions against Tehran.

Iranian lawmakers had passed the single-urgency motion with 93 percent of the votes, referring it to the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee for further consultation with different state organizations and legislative bodies, Naqavi Hosseini said. But they're partners in so many ways - other than both holding USA hostages - from the weapons trade to circumvention of sanctions that every action coming out of Pyongyang needs to be weighed in broader context of the Iran relationship, and even as a test run of Iran's ultimate ambitions for its own weapons capability.

And there are early indications that Iran plans to act like Kim Jong Un's war room - in the campaign sense, at a minimum - during Pyongyang's testing of United Nations and Washington fortitude. "For all the talk, only America has dropped the bomb".

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China - plus Germany reached the JCPOA on July 14, 2015 and began implementing it in January 2016. "North Korea was helping Iran, but now Iran is helping North Korea with technology for inter-continental ballistic missiles". It may also use this opportunity to finally cement its "road to the sea" as more than just an idea, but as a concrete reality.

The war of words between the U.S. and North Korea is being watched all over the world, but of all the nations purportedly without a horse in the race, it may be Iran that is the most interested.

But a new development in the Middle East should have the whole world concerned. The sanctions were mainly targeted at Iran's missile capability.

"Iran's missile program is merely defensive and deterrent", he said, stressing that Iran "is one of the safest and most stable countries in the Middle East... which finds strength only in its own people".

To avert a potentially devastating conflict, the State Department is dangling the offer of conditional talks with North Korea. Should Trump's words prove to be nothing more than that, Iran will know it has room to manoeuvre.
