Tillerson Says Not to Worry, Pacific Air Forces Ready to 'Fight Tonight'

US flies bombers over Guam

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. and North Korea have sharply raised the stakes in the "game" around North Korean nuclear & missile program.

The targets of the bombing runs could be over 20 North Korean missile-launch sites and support facilities.

"The Japanese reactionaries are making no scruple of joining in the US which dropped A-bombs over Japan and did a great deal of harm to it in the past, and working hard to realize their long-ambition for turning it into a military giant and for overseas militarist aggression by the method of taking advantage of the USA hostile policy toward the DPRK [North Korea] and strategy to dominate Asia", wrote the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Guam is a tiny island in the Marianas chain located the western Pacific, approximately 210 square miles, or approximately nine times larger than Manhattan and five times larger than San Francisco.

After taking off from Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, the B-1s - assigned to the 37th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron - flew to Japanese airspace, where they were joined by Japanese F-2 fighter jets.

The remarks followed North Korea's warning of preemptive missile strikes against the United States military base of Guam in response to two U.S. strategic bombers which were sent again Tuesday to South Korea.

A pair of B-1B USA strategic bombers flew over the Korean Peninsula in a joint drill with South Korean fighters on Tuesday. "It will never miss the opportunity to sweep away the Anderson air base in Guam".

AN ATTACK on the tiny Pacific territory of Guam could escalate to draw in the world's most powerful nations within 24 hours under a rarely-used clause of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation military alliance.

The UN Security Council unanimously imposed new sanctions on North Korea on Saturday over its continued missile tests. "The situation is really serious.Another round of sabre rattling will certainly not help us here" German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel's spokesman, Martin Schaefer, said.

That threat came a day after multiple outlets reported that the threadbare communist regime in Pyongyang had successfully built a nuclear warhead small enough to be delivered on its ICBMs, "crossing a key threshold on the path to becoming a full-fledged nuclear power", as the Washington Post put it. The U.S. promises to apply exclusively a non-nuclear strike.

A Beijing-based expert told DPA Pyongyang's stance was "very close to the red line" set by the U.S. that North Korea should not threaten United States security.

The conclusion was made in a confidential assessment completed last month by the Defense Intelligence Agency, the newspaper said, citing anonymous U.S. intelligence officials.

North Korea's military has said it is crafting a plan to "contain" the U.S. military bases in Guam with ballistic missile fire.
