Steelers vs. Colts: Roethlisberger rusty & other halftime thoughts

On a night when Ben Roethlisberger appeared for the first time in the preseason, Landry Jones also made his debut and ended any debate about his status as the Steelers' backup quarterback.

Saturday was a confidence-builder for Tolzien and the Colts because they needed to see something out of the offense to give them hope that they can be effective without Luck if he doesn't play against the Rams. That was the start of a five-play drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown run by veteran running back Frank Gore. In terms of how well the Steelers perform this year, it will if Roethlisberger is still like this in two weeks. "Getting ready for the season opener", Davis said. Jones hit tight end Xavier Grimble for a 10-yard score in the third quarter, but was intercepted in the end zone with less than five minutes to go and Pittsburgh trailing. Rookie James Conner ran for 26 yards on four carries. Davis was off to a good start before the injury, as he accounted for seven combined tackles (four solo) and one tackle for loss.

Quincy Wilson, who was the Colts' second-round pick out of Florida, left last week's game against the Dallas Cowboys with a knee injury. Cornerback Vontae Davis left the game in the first half with a hamstring injury.

Steelers: RB Fitzgerald Toussaint, losing ground in the scramble behind Bell, left with an unspecified left leg injury and did not return.
