Notes From The Phillies' 7-6 Loss To New York

Mets Phillies Baseball

Fantasy Impact A sigh of relief for DeGrom, the Mets and fantasy owners alike as the X-rays came back negative after he was caught by a Nick Williams line drive. The right-hander ended his postgame interview by joking that at least he now has a triceps.

"More than a teammate, I feel like he's my brother", said Rosario. "I was fortunate enough that it didn't hit me in the elbow".

"We agreed to let him go out there", manager Pete Mackanin said.

"One of the things I have liked about [Smith's] offense is he's always used all parts of the ballpark", Collins said.

"It's good to be able to rebound in game and make positive adjustments", Lugo said. In his past five starts, Pivetta has an 8.64 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP.

"Man, I've been seeing that stuff all year", said Smith. "The same excitement he's feeling, I'm feeling for him".

Michael Conforto got the Mets' scoring started in the second inning, crushing a solo homer to center field.

Conforto hit his second home run in as many days and his fourth homer and his sixth RBI in his last six games.

Mets starter Seth Lugo gave up five runs and eight hits, striking out a career-best eight in 5 1/3 innings. Velasquez didn't return after his shaky 32-pitch first inning due to numbness on the tip of his right middle finger. It would also call into question whether Velasquez - who had one stint on the disabled list previous year with a right bicep strain in June and who had Tommy John surgery in 2011.

There were injuries in the past, too, such as one to his shoulder just this past May. Hernandez pulled the Phillies even at 6-6 with a solo shot off of Jerry Blevins in the eighth inning.

Rosario, with nine games big league experience on Smith, notched his first multi-hit game game with two singles and his first home run. He has extended his career-high with 25 home runs this season and his 11th since the All-Star break.

Freddy Galvis and Odubel Herrera followed with back-to-back singles. Neil Walker went 2 for 4 with an RBI of his own, while Asdrubal Cabrera went 2 for 2 with a double.

Hoskins, meanwhile, had a.966 OPS and hit 29 homers at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. He did play the outfield in college.

The Phillies held a moment of silence and a video tribute to former catcher and member of the 1993 National League champions Darren Daulton, who passed away from brain cancer on Sunday night at the age of 55. This was the first time the Phillies had played at home since Daulton died on Sunday of brain cancer.

Dominic Smith's major league debut - and first career hit - were overshadowed Friday night by another heralded prospect's thunder.

"From where we stand right now, I don't know", Velasquez said. "We're anxious to see how he swings the bat, how his discipline is at the plate, how he handles himself at first, how he handles himself in this atmosphere". He later grounded out in the sixth inning.
