Jose Mourinho believes Nemanja Matic is flawless for Manchester United

New signings Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic will be crucial to Manchester United's title aspirations in the upcoming Premier League season.

While it could be argued that he won the titles in his first year at Porto (2002/03), Chelsea (2004/05) and Inter Milan (2008/09) so it was relatively easier for him to repeat the feat in his second season with these teams, it must be noted that Real Madrid had not won the La Liga for three years prior to his coming in 2010/11 and he promptly claimed the title in his second year.

However, the club did win the Europa League and the League Cup, giving the manager a platform of success on which to build. It's hard to explain, but when you play with Mourinho, you feel like the best striker in the world.

Morata has four league titles and two Champions League medals at the age of 24, but the Spain global was not first choice for either Madrid or Juventus.

"It is not because I have always done it [won the league title in his second season] that I am going to do it again", Mourinho said.

The 35-year-old free agent, who scored 28 goals for the club last season, is battling back to fitness after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in April, though, and Mourinho insisted there is no rush to get a deal done.

"And last season that didn't happen much - we were focused on the goals that our striker was scoring and when he was not scoring, the team was a little bit in trouble to win matches". It's not just for his qualities but my relation with him and the way I know him'.

"When this season I got a call that Matic wants to play for me, he wants to come to Manchester United and he can make it happen, I thought he was the ideal player for me".

The United manager had outlined four positions he wanted to strengthen in to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward at the start of the transfer window, but only Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic have arrived at Old Trafford.

Matteo Darmian is likely to start ahead of Daley Blind at left-back, and Antonio Valencia should captain the side at right-back after Timothy Fosu-Mensah was loaned out to Crystal Palace.

While Mourinho has welcomed the new signings, he argues that of greater significance is the fact his team will not have their domestic fixture list disrupted by the Europa League this season.

Rooney's return to Everton should be one of the feel-good stories of the Premier League season, with the former Manchester United captain looking to recapture the glory days.

'I think every one of us in his own way is equipped to do it. The top seven, we are all in Europe. "The reality is totally different", Mourinho said.

"This time, we are all in the same basket".

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has written in The Daily Mail that Dwight Gayle will be the key player for Newcastle United this season.
