Giroud hands Arsenal dramatic win over Leicester city

Arsenal record-signing Alexandre Lacazette launched his English league career in style by heading in the opener after 94 seconds.

Arsene Wenger admits he gave Olivier Giroud the chance to leave Arsenal "at one stage", but the forward chose to stay put at the Emirates Stadium.

"I don't know if it is two weeks or one more week, but he will not be available".

The Premier League kicks off a new season tonight with millionaire players entertaining the more modestly paid fans packed into stadiums and on TVs.

"It was a relief Giroud chose to stay". While Lacazette has started with an impressive performance in the Community Shield match, Kolasinac went a step further to score the all-important equaliser leading to the Arsenal win in the Community Shield. Unfortunately they didn't go in but we can take a lot of positives, he added.

Wenger was also without three of his top centre-backs on the pitch - suspended Laurent Koscielny, injured Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi, who remained on the bench - and said the defensive mistakes can be ironed out quickly. I don't know whether it was a lack of concentration or game management.

"The first goal was from a short corner and we were not focused enough".

The Gunners are thought to still be on the lookout for new signings this summer as they prepare to try and challenge for the Premier League title this season. "He did very well on the left when we moved him".

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare also talking to Sky Sports: "We spoke about being compact and being a threat with the pace of Vardy".

Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan are on the road to recovery but neither will be available for Manchester City's first game of the season at Brighton this weekend.

"It would be better to lose two or three matches but win three or four more matches, and then we would have six to eight more points".

"It's simple, in every game he is stronger since he joined us", Wenger said. We tried to push, we kept believing in our game, carried on, pushing hard and we've been courageous to the end and thank goodness we won this game.
