Former Syracuse Basketball Star Andrew White Signs With Boston Celtics

Days after announcing that they will retire #Paul Pierce's No. 34 jersey in the coming season, the #Boston Celtics set the date for the ceremony.

On Feb. 11, the Celtics will retire Pierce's No. 34 after a Sunday showdown with James and the Cavaliers.

Pierce will be the 22nd Celtics to have his number hang among the rafters with many notable legends in Celtics history, and the first since Cedric Maxwell (number 31) had his number retired back in 2003. "His love for the game was contagious and his talents and hard work were legendary". He also played for the Brooklyn Nets and the Washington Wizards for one season each and two years with the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Celtics drafted Pierce 10th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft.

He averaged 21.8 points (44.7% FG, 37.0% 3-PT, 80.6% FT), 6.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 36.6 minutes in 1,102 regular-season games with the Celtics. The Truth retired at the end of last season, and less than a day after the finale, Wyc Grousbeck, one of the Celtics' owners, said in an interview that the team would retire Pierce's jersey. He helped lead the team to 10 playoff appearances and one National Basketball Association title, in 2008 when he also was named Finals MVP. To now be recognized alongside those names is such an honor. "I'm a Celtic for life", said Pierce.

Pierce has played the third-most games in a Celtics uniform all-time, leads the franchise in career three-pointers made, and led the team to a title alongside Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo in 2008.
