Florida Delegation Reacts as Tensions Escalate with North Korea

We have seen how Tillerson and Trump repeatedly contradict one another on various issues, so it is never clear when we should take Tillerson's statements as a reliable guide to what USA policy is at any given moment. "As a citizen, former U.S. Senator, and twelve-year member of the Armed Services Committee, I urge you to act [at] once". He added, "Nothing I have seen and nothing I know of would indicate that the situation has dramatically changed in the last 24 hours".

If Americans should "have no concerns about this particular rhetoric", neither should North Korea, and so Trump's threat was meaningless bluster that should never have been uttered in public. In light of Trump's recent threat to meet continued North Korean nuclear threats with "fury and fire", which Humphrey likened to "pouring gasoline on fire", Humphrey argued that the "system of checks and balances" is not enough.

He defended President Donald Trump against criticism of using overly aggressive rhetoric. "I think the problem is there is a lunatic in North Korea with nuclear weapons and the ability to put them on a missile that can reach the United States ..."

Humphrey, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump, called for Trump to be "relieved of the powers of the presidency" as soon as possible.

That letter also asked about steps to address humanitarian issues such as the reunification of Korean families separated by the armistice that concluded the Korean War, and the return of remains of US service members left in North Korea after the war. "All the inflaming here is coming from this insane guy in North Korea".

The lawmakers noted that they wrote to Trump in late May raising similar concerns but had not received a response.
